Facing Fresno

A key data point that birthed Fresno DRIVE was Fresno’s ranking of 59th out of 59 for racial economic inclusion amongst California cities. It was clear that for DRIVE to make lasting change, pursuing racial equity needed to be deeply woven across all levels of the collective impact initiative. To achieve racial equity within DRIVE, we invest in the following:

Race Equity Advisory Committee (REAC)

This committee serves as an advisory board on all things racial equity within DRIVE. In the last three years, the REAC has supported the structuring of DRIVE’s approach to race equity and community engagement. Moving forward, the REAC intends to double down on those efforts through these approaches:

  1. Advising on the foundational curriculum to build a shared understanding, analysis and agreement on race and racism (Facing Fresno) and shape additional learning opportunities through the DRIVE Innovation Center, that encourages deep analysis and critical dialogues on race and racism.

  2. Inform DRIVE’s community engagement strategy to be inclusive and far-reaching.

  3. Ensure DRIVE’s measurement and evaluation systems are in tune with racial equity measures and are community centered and responsive.

Facing Fresno

Facing Fresno is the signature training/curriculum/initiative that explores the impact of racism in Fresno and builds a community historical analysis of policy, place, and people. The initiative invites our Fresno community to learn together about race and racism and make connections to how Fresno has been shaped by racism. To learn more about Facing Fresno, visit our website and register for an upcoming community training.
