DRIVE Events Recap

The Fresno DRIVE team hosted a number of events and workshops in October.  Keep reading for a recap of these informative opportunities that were offered to our community.  If you attended any of our events, we hope it was an enlightening experience.  Keep an eye out in future newsletters for events taking place in 2025.

Fresno Mobility Metrics Dashboard Workshops

Fresno DRIVE’s Measurement & Evaluation team, alongside our partners at the Urban Institute, hosted community sessions to introduce the Fresno Mobility Metrics Dashboard. During two workshops offered in-person and virtually, nearly 120 participants explored this dynamic tool.  The data dashboard includes data from 28 metrics that are associated with upward mobility.  A sampling of the metrics include education, healthcare, transportation, and environmental impact. In a third workshop, the dashboard was introduced as a valuable resource to more than 120 students from 12 Central Valley high schools involved in the Health Youth Corps.  These scholar-activists, preparing for their final showcase on April 7, 2025, now have local data at their fingertips, empowering them to drive change in their communities. An Evening with Maria Hinojosa

Fresno DRIVE hosted Emmy and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa. The renowned journalist and executive producer of NPR's Latino USA, spoke to a packed house at the historic Tower Theatre in Fresno on the evening of October 30.  Maria delivered an inspiring message about the essential role journalism plays in informing communities, amplifying voices, and fostering civic engagement. Maria emphasized that impactful storytelling can elevate unheard voices, driving meaningful change within our communities. Her visit was a reminder of the transformative power of authentic stories in building a more informed and inclusive society. Following her talk, Maria graciously connected with attendees and signed copies of her memoir, Once I Was You.
